Companies that supply energy have to prove themselves like any other company does. One of the companies in the energy industry is Clearview Energy. We wanted to see what the company was all about, so we decided to review it. What is Clearview Energy and how can it benefit you? Clearview Energy prides itself on being one of the fastest-growing energy suppliers in the
Northeast United States and the State of Texas. With plans to expand its natural gas services
into New Jersey, Maryland, and Pennsylvania, it stands to reason that Clearview will continue to grow in the years ahead.
However, Clearview Energy customers have not shied away from providing mixed-to-negative
reviews of the company. This caught our eye—if Clearview is not the golden ticket it claims to
be, is it worth your hard-earned money?
To find out whether Clearview Energy provides the high-quality, affordable, eco-friendly energy solutions that it claims to, read what our experts have to say. Below, we go over everything there is to know about the company and whether it lives up to the hype when held under scrutiny.
What is Clearview Energy and
How Does It Work?
Like so many others, Clearview Energy recognizes that much of the energy industry has a net-negative effect on the environment. For example, on the official Clearview Energy website, they explicitly mention that carbon emissions from fossil fuel energy systems contribute to climate change and that these emissions can endanger our food supply.
In acknowledging this, Clearview Energy helps homeowners find better, greener solutions for
their energy needs. In other words, they help regular folks switch off the standard fossil-fuel
energy grid and instead turn to eco-friendly and sustainable energy solutions. Specifically,
Clearview offers energy programs supplied from the following environmentally friendly sources:
By visiting the Clearview website, you can enter your zip code and see if you are eligible for an
information session with a company representative. Assuming you are eligible, you can book an appointment directly from the website to have a Clearview rep knocking on your door in no time. The representatives can then arrange consultations with local third-party energy providers.
Thankfully, Clearview Energy is a relatively transparent company. On their website, they list that they are incorporated and based in Dallas, Texas, at 901 Main Street Suite 4700, and that they can be reached at 1-800-746-4702.
In our view, a company that puts themselves out there without anything to hide makes us even
more confident in the quality of their services. If you’re keeping score, that earns a point in our
How to Get Started with
To sign up for Clearview Energy and to speak with a customer representative, you must first
visit the Sign-Up Page on their website. From there, you will be faced with a submission box
asking you to input your zip code. After entering your zip code, press the “Sign Up Today”

If you are eligible to receive Clearview Energy services, you can book a consultation with the
company at your earliest convenience. However, only US residents living in Texas, Illinois,
Ohio, and the American Northeast are currently eligible for Clearview Energy services.
What Makes Clearview Energy Unique
There are several reasons why Clearview Energy can be considered a “unique” company.
However, not all of them are flattering. On the one hand, Clearview Energy is known for offering sign-up promotions and perks to help entice prospective customers. At one point, Clearview was offering new customers a Hulu Limited Commercials plan for the duration of their time as a Clearview customer.
However, multiple complaints found online indicate that Clearview never acted on their
commitment to providing this Hulu subscription plan. For example, Rick, a Clearview customer
writing on TrustPilot, alleges that “Clearview no longer has a Hulu plan and they don’t answer
emails [or] questions sent online.”
While this is a minor incident, we think it is a testament to a longstanding and corroborated track record of shoddy customer service and not-so-customer friendly attitude. During our research on the company, we discovered multiple accounts of customers and former customers who complained about the overly aggressive sales representatives and the poor contact they had with company reps after signing up.
However, not everything about Clearview Energy is bad. There are many praiseworthy things to say about Clearview, such as the simple fact that they can provide services related to energy supply, insulation, and heating and cooling that can save you money in the long-term. Plus, Clearview has several partnerships with organizations like the Winston School that are
developing the technology and infrastructure to push the sustainable energy industry forward.
Coupons and Deals
Currently, there are no coupons, deals, or promotions being publicly offered by Clearview
Energy. However, we recommend checking in with their website before you sign-up to see if
there are any budget-friendly limited time offers available in your area.
(Other Clearview Energy Reviews)
Many customers and former customers of Clearview Energy have strong opinions about the
company. Overall, we noticed a slight amount of praise for the company by verified customers. Instead, most of the reviews we encountered were less than charitable to Clearview and many of them had grievances they wanted to express.
For one, Clearview Energy currently holds a three-out-of-five-star review on Trustpilot,
corresponding to a “Poor” rating based on three customer reviews. One report, written by Mike Jones, indicates that Clearview Energy workers are “deceptively” dressed as electric workers and use high-pressure sales tactics as if they were licensed authorities.
Another report written in February 2018 on Trustpilot complains about how “spiteful” the
employees of the company are. The review goes on to state that, upon completion of your initial contract, you will be given “the most expensive rate they can legally give you.” While these reviews should be taken with a grain of salt, we feel that it is important to share them.
The Clearview Energy profile on the Better Business Bureau (BBB) currently registers 80 formal
complaints against the company. Of these complaints, exactly half of them are related to
advertising and sales tactics. The next most common complaint category was billing and
collections, of which there were 18.
How It Compares
There are few direct comparisons that can be made between Clearview Energy and other eco-friendly energy companies. This is because Clearview is, at its core, a sort of third-party sales company where they serve as the middleman between the energy source (i.e., wind farm company, solar generator, etc.) and the homeowner.
However, there are a handful of US-based companies that offer third-party green energy
services for residential households. Below, we compare a few of the top green energy, HVAC,
and insulation service companies and see how they measure up to Clearview.
Eco-Friendly Energy Company
Founded by Dr. Meyya Meyyappan, Ph.D., Eco-Friendly Energy Company provides solar
energy, fuel cell supply, wind, wave, and tide-powered electricity, and lighting services for
commercial and residential buildings. Eco-Friendly Energy Company specializes in DSA, permit-approved, Architectural Design and Construction projects.
In our view, the services offered by Eco-Friendly Energy Company outmatch Clearview’s.
However, there is little information available online about the quality of these services (which is
probably because the company is so new). Nonetheless, we would like to see a broader scope of services offered by Clearview Energy in the future, including tide and wave-related projects.
Silver Springs Networks
Although a cut above Clearview Energy regarding technological sophistication, Silver Springs
Networks is one of the premier US-based clean energy companies currently operating. Owned
by Itron, Silver Springs offers software for eco-friendly home utility companies to improve their
Founded in 2002, Silver Spring Networks has quickly made a name for itself as one of the top
providers of technical infrastructure to improve energy efficiency standards for homeowners. By using their software, American residents can communicate with their solar and wind-powered energy devices in real-time and get responsive feedback about how to increase inefficiencies.
Solar Alliance of America
Solar Alliance of America is a far more reliable provider of wind-based energy solutions than
Clearview Energy. The catch, however, is that you have to live in the Southern California area if
you want to access their residential services. Since 2003, Solar Alliance has developed over
350 MW of solar power on residential rooftops and fields alone.
Whereas Clearview Energy brands itself as a “provider” of renewable energy solutions (read:
middleman), Solar Alliance is the real deal. Helmed by Jason Bak, this company has seen a
kind of year-over-year growth that Clearview Energy can only dream of. Why? Because
customers rave about the affordability and professionalism of their clean energy services.
Next Step Living
In the venture capital-backed home energy market, one company has quickly caught the eye of industry insiders. Next Step Living, a clean energy startup that has generated over $100 million in venture capital in its first two years in operation, is currently in the middle of a large C and D round funding series. Stay tuned for this new East Coast-based energy company that may one day splash onto the same scene as Clearview Energy.
Hawaii Energy Connection
If you live in the beautiful State of Hawaii, you have probably heard of Hawaii Energy
Connection, the leading eco-friendly residential power providers in the state. Specializing in
solar-based energy solutions, Hawaii Energy Connection is looking to guarantee their
customers a lifetime returns on investment for their solar retrofits—you might be waiting a long time before Clearview tries something like that!
According to Makena Coffman, Associate Professor of Urban and Regional Planning at the
University of Hawaii, her Hawaii Energy Connection system is providing her with a whopping 7
to 9 percent rate of return with the new Hawaii grid credit. Until Clearview can start offering
benefits in this ballpark, Hawaii Energy Connection is the clear superior of the two.
Based in sunny Palm Desert, California, Renova Energy specializes in providing leading solar
energy solutions for residential properties. The only catch, in our view, is that Renova currently
only serves the American Pacific region, so those living to the East will have to hold out until
their inevitable expansion.
Our favorite aspect of this company is that they sell and install Tesla Powerwall units. If you
want the most effective solar battery on the market to store your household energy, these are
the guys you want to get in touch with.
What We Think
Ultimately, our opinion of Clearview Energy strongly tends toward the negative. Although they
operate in a brutally underserved market such as the American Northeast, they simply fall short of providing the reliable and trustworthy service needed for such a volatile industry. In our view, we recommend passing on Clearview Energy unless you have no other alternative in your area. Until they can lose their high-pressure sales tactics, start honoring sign-up commitments, and provide honest and more transparent pricing plans (i.e., without rates jumping up after the initial contract), we simply cannot endorse Clearview Energy to our readers.
We have done a comprehensive review on Clearview Energy so that you can get the full picture of the company. That was important to do so that you can make up your mind about the company. We have also weighed in on the discussion by providing our opinion about the company and have also measured it against other companies in the industry.
If you have experience with Clearview Energy and would like to share your story with us, let us know what you think. Also, don't hesitate to get in touch with us if you have any questions or concerns.
